Dental fear among adolescents with cleft

Background Dental fear is a prevalent phenomenon among children and adolescents globally. Aim To investigate dental 18-year-olds with cleft lip and/or palate (CLP) at their final follow-up clinic visit, to evaluate the association between OHRQoL. Design This cross-sectional study included cohort of CLP treated Oulu University Hospital Cleft Lip Palate Center, in northern Finland since 1995. A total 62 64 individuals participated this study. The validated Finnish version Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) was used assess studied using Modified Anxiety Scale (MDAS) cognitive vulnerability model (CVM). Results Almost two fifths participants reported moderate fear. Participants including reporting impact on OHRQoL higher mean MDAS scores. In an unadjusted model, had risk for scores compared ones only palate. Conclusions common CLP, specifically those clefts involving lip. seem be associated.
